The oldest dog ever

The owners of Bella say that she is at least 29 years old. That's 203 if every year of a dog's life equals seven human years. David Richardson, 76, said he bought the Labrador cross from an RSPCA rescue centre about 26 years ago when she was at least three years old. The faithful pet is believed to be the world's oldest living dog and could even be the oldest dog ever. Unfortunately her owner has no documentation to prove her precise date of birth and so Bella's extraordinary longevity will never enter the record books. Does it matter?

Is she still getting around ok? We would all love our dogs to live much longer - it's the saddest part of living with a dog that they can't be with us for a much longer stretch.

If the owner has no documentation could it perhaps be that he has got the dates wrong and the dog is nowhere near that age? If indeed it really is that old, that is phenomenal. They should clone it, so that we can keep our pets for longer in the future. My poor dog is having an operation on Friday to have a harmless fatty tumour removed from under his armpit. It's quite huge and starting to get in the way. Will not be happy until I have him home again on Friday night!!

Do you think Bella's always had grey whiskers?

Isn't that amazing? Even if she were only 26. When my miniature schnauzer was 15 and I was lifting him up and down steps etc, I read about a 23 yr old schnauzer and wondered if I would have to do this for another 8 years but sadly he died not long after.
